Ben has been fly fishing for the better part of 10 years. In his early days with the sport he would leave work drive the 40 minutes to the Farmington River fish until dark and then back home, just to do it all over again the next day. The drive always sucked, but he was quite literally hooked on the tranquility and excitement her found in the waters. Flash forward a couple years... he and his wife, Marrit, bought their first home on the banks of the river and that's when the real magic happened.
The connections he's made and the amount of knowledge he's accrued over the short span of time has made him an asset to someone unfamiliar with the area. His bartending and sales background just make him a fun hang, easy to talk to, it makes you feel like your just spending the day with an old friend.
Do not let the picture fool you, Marrit is not a fisherman. No, but her roots are almost quit literally in the Farmington River... a self described "River Rat". Born and raised in New Hartford she spent many days playing in the waters catching minnows, crawfish and chasing ducks. History has a way of repeating itself and when time came to settle down and start a family, New Hartford, and more specifically the river, seemed like the most logical choice. 7 years and 2 children later, her and her husband Ben are starting their newest endeavor together with River Valley Guides.
While she won't be joining you on the river, you will be able to enjoy her food and hospitality that comes with 15+ years of restaurant and management expertise, most recently from J. Timothy's in Plainville, CT.
